Dirty Floors

I have traveled all over the world.  I have stayed in luxury hotels and youth hostels.  When I was a teen age runaway, I lived in my car.  I am not unrealistic nor overly fussy  - but this was the MOST VILE hotel room floor I have ever had the misfortune to experience.

We arrived in the late afternoon on Monday October 13, and by bedtime, when I sat down to check my feet before tucking in – I was SHOCKED.  See the photo below of my feet.

At first I was embarrassed to post this, but then I thought,

“Why should I be embarrassed?  I was able to wash off the filth.
It is this motel’s management that is truly embarrassed.
They are filthy in a way that requires much more than soap and a washcloth.”

So, on Tuesday I had to get up early and had my surgery and came home and went to bed.  I was not awake long enough to need to walk around the room with my shoes off.

On Wednesday, October 15.  I was finally able to get up to use the washroom, but I borrowed a clean pair of my husband's socks, because I had forgotten to bring slippers and I did not want to walk on such a nasty floor.  I was able to get up once on Wednesday, and three times on Thursday, and so in the picture you see below, I have walked from the bed to the bathroom, and perhaps a trip to the front door to sniff some fresh air (of course the room smells old and stale).

I would estimate that’s a total of 50-60 feet walked, and you can see the condition of the socks.  If you could see them closely, you would see that they have bits of things like wax or gum or some kind of goo; plenty of pubic hair,  and a staple.   Nice!

This next picture helps capture how even the “faked you out!” new paint job on the building and exterior trim was done fast and sloppy and over old crud. This is the way this facility has been maintained since it was built. On the exterior, you can see by this photograph everything is rough crumbling nasty.  And in ill repair.  My husband is a contractor in Napa Valley, and he basically had to just keep his eyes closed to survive.

Note the 4 inch long cigarette burn at the door entrance and you can get a real good picture of what this “non-smoking” room smells like.
